PLC SYSTEMS MODERNIZATION

We are PLC Modernization Experts

IMS has been upgrading PLC systems for well over 25 years and it is one of our specialties. We have gotten the entire process down to a science and are able to upgrade these systems on scheduled outages to minimize downtime. We know how to go into a system and surgically carve out obsolete components and install modern, readily available, best-in-class PLC systems. These modernized PLC systems can help increase your bottom line by making your process run more efficiently, so what are you waiting for?

Do you have one of these Dinosaurs controlling your critical processes? As cool as they were back in the day, they need to go now:

  • Reliance AutoMax

  • GE Series 6

  • Modicon Systems

  • Allen-Bradley PLC 2/3/5, SLC 500

  • Siemens Step5; S7-400

  • And of course, lots of "Black Box" controllers

Retrofit Project Execution Plan

The first step to executing PLC upgrades is laying out a plan for either a phase-in solution, or a complete replacement in one outage. This plan becomes our roadmap for executing each incremental step, to ultimately achieving a state-of-the-art system. The user and IMS are partners and integral team members, each with defined responsibilities to reach the final goals.

Programming

Our philosophy is to design and deliver a new system. We will not patch up old code or be dependent on software conversion tools. This way, we can take advantage of modern programming tools, techniques, and methodology. Reconstructing the existing machine functionality, while applying the latest software best practices, the new system is tested complete before it ever reaches the user's plant. The results - you don't inherit any nasty "bugs" that were crawling around in the old code.

Meticulous Engineering Design

Driven by the application of Design-for-Startup practices throughout our process, we begin by first understanding the existing machine configuration. Then, we choose the right hardware and installation methods that best fit the customer's needs. IMS provides comprehensive documentation that tracks each stage of development

Installation & Commissioning

This is what separates IMS from the rest - the ability to install and commission new PLC controls in the shortest time possible. Applying our Vertical-Startup concept refined from years of experience, keeps disruption of mill operations to near zero. In the end, we introduce many functional upgrades that increase process efficiency and machine productivity. Quite simply, we get it done.
